Dr Roland Ark was born in Burma in 1959 and educated at St. Patrick High School before continuing his studies at the Institute of Medicine II in Rangoon, Burma. After obtaining his first medical degree in 1985, he worked as a solo General Practitioner in Moulmein, Burma.
In search of new opportunities, Roland migrated with his family to Australia in 1991 where he enrolled at the Sydney Institute of Technology obtaining an Associate Diploma in Applied Science (Biological Techniques). Then he worked in many local pathology laboratories until 1999 when he was selected and invited to join the Medical School, University of Tasmania, graduating with Honours Degree in 2001.
With general practice firmly in his sights, Roland completed his intern training and continued to work at North West Regional Hospital, Burnie, Tasmania. He began consulting from Wynyard Doctors Service as a GP Registrar in 2004 and achieved his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) in 2005 and has continued to consult from the practice since then.
Roland’s passion for continuing professional development and nurturing of young doctors has seen him involved in supporting general practice in a variety of ways. He is an ex-member of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Tasmania Faculty Board, panel member of Fitness for Intended Clinical Practice Interview (FICPI) and Pre Employment Structured Clinical Interview (PESCI). In addition, he is an ex-member of the Vocational Training Accreditation Subcommittee (VTASC), an ex-director and ex-vice chair of General Practice North West Tasmania.
Roland received a Certificate of Acknowledgement as Friend of the Faculty at Collegial Dinner on 27 March 2010 in recognition of his valued and continued support of the RACGP Tasmania Faculty.
Roland has worked with GPTT till 2012 as a site surveyor for General Practice Accreditation for Trainer and Training Post for GP registrar training and a Hospital GP Liaison Officer. It involved visiting to North West Regional and Mersey Community Hospitals to meet GP registrars who are working and receiving training in hospitals for their hospital terms and assists the development of learning plans and general needs.
Roland is a practice owner, principal, and acting manager of Wynyard Medical Centre. He is greatly interested in Practice Management and Accreditation.
He has been actively involved in mentoring, training and supervising IMGs, GP registrars and medical students since 2005. He is passionate in training and teaching GP Registrars, International Medical Graduates (IMGs), Medical Students from the Rural Clinical School (UTas) and the University of Queensland, John Flynn Scholars, and Nursing Students.
In addition, Roland is actively involved in some other RACGP College activities as an interviewer for GP registrar selection, RACGP OSCE,RCE and CCE Examiner since 2005.
On a personal note, Roland enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, singing and listening music, and watching movies.
Dr Pervaiz was born and trained in Pakistan. He has worked as a GP in Pakistan for four years before coming to Tassie. DR Pervaiz has successfully achieved his fellowship with RACGP in August 2012 and now consults from Wynyard Medical Centre.
He enjoys supporting the young generation doctors, GP registrars, and IMGs. He enjoys a rural GP lifestyle and he calls his home in Wynyard, Australia.
His main interests are acute Surgical and Medical Emergency Medicine.
He loves to do fly fishing, boating, and camping when he has his spare time.
Dr Sukanya Selvarajah was born in Sri Lanka and trained in Russia. She began consulting from the practice in 2014.
She has worked in Colombo, Sri Lanka for 7 years before coming to Tassie.
She has undertaken RACGP PEP program run has achieved her fellowship of RACGP in 2023.
Her main interests are child and women health.
Dr Phyu was born and raised in Yangon, Myanmar. She was trained and graduated from University of Medicine (1) in Myanmar and worked as a general practitioner in Yangon for some years before migrating to Australia.
She attained AMC certificate in 2018 and worked as a resident and principal house officer in Harvey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals in Queensland from 2018 to 2021 in various rotations including rural. She had joined general practice training in Harvey Bay, and has achieved her Fellowship from RACGP in February, 2024.
She will be providing her General Practice Medical Services at Wynyard Medical Centre from the 25th of March 2024. She has great interests in Women’s Health, Chronic Disease and Child Health.
She enjoys watching movies, cooking and reading in her free time.
Dr. Claire Maliwat Santos was born in the Philippines. She graduated Doctor of Medicine from FEU-NRMF Institute of Medicine in 2005 and pursued postgraduate fellowship training in Family and Community Medicine from the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital in 2012. She obtained Diplomate in Family Medicine from the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians in 2013.
She has worked as a Family Medicine Specialist for several years in the Philippines before moving to Oman, where she worked as a full-time Rural GP for 6 years.
Dr Santos is current working towards obtaining RACGP Fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Roland Ark. Her main interests are in Women and Child’s health.
Dr. Santos enjoys watching movies and going to the beach with her family during her free time.
Dr Alireza Asadi was born in Iran . He graduated Medical doctorate from the Azad University of Medical Sciences in 1999 and again obtained a paediatric specialty diploma from the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in 2008 and sub specialty in Paediatric pulmonologist diploma from Shahid Beheshti Medical University in 2016 .
He has passed AMC part 1 and has been assessed equivalent to 3.5 years of Australian GP experience by RACGP. He has worked as General practitioner , Paediatrician and Pulmonologist for more than 20 years before moving to Australia.
Dr Asadi is current working towards obtaining RACGP Fellowship. His main interests are internal medicine and paediatrics.
Dr Asadi has found Wynyard to be a very scenic, quiet, and a place with kind and friendly people. He is married with a duaghter and they are happily living in Burnie and wish to continue consulting as a rural GP.
Dr Lois Eunice Gonzales-Roque is joining our multi-disciplinary General Practice team soon. She is currently in a process of recruitment under RACGP PEP-Specialist Stream.
Dr Lois Eunice Gonzales-Roque was born and raised in the Philippines, in the province of Bulacan. In addition to completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as her pre-medical course, she also obtained her Philippine Nursing License in 2012. She then proceeded with medical school proper at the Our Lady of Fatima University and graduated in 2016, and furthered her training as a resident physician specialisingspecializing in Family and Community Medicine at Ospital ng Makati. She also earned her master’s degree in Management in Hospital Administration at the Philippine Christian University in 2023, and in March 2024, the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians granted her the title, Diplomate in Family Medicine.
She has been working as a General Practice physician since 2017 and as a Family Medicine Specialist since 2024 in Bulacan, and in Metro Manila, Philippines, rendering services both in the government hospital and private clinics.
Dr. Gonzales-Roque is at a process of entering the Australian General Practice and registration under the Practice Experience Program Specialist in late October 2024 and will be undertaking under the training and supervision of Dr Roland Ark for her further specialisation as a Fellow of the Royal Australian Colleges of General Practitioners.
Her special interests are towards comprehensive lifestyle medicine, biopsychosocial counselling and palliative care services.
She is married and enjoys making meals for her husband and spends her leisure time travelling and exploring new places with him.
Dr Ellaine Anne Asuncion is joining our multi-disciplinary General Practice team soon. She is currently in a process of recruitment under RACGP PEP-Specialist Stream.
Dr. Ellaine Anne Asuncion is a board-certified Family Physician with a Fellowship from the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP). She graduated in 2014 from the Family and Community Medicine Training Program at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in Manila, Philippines.
Dr. Asuncion is a dedicated physician with a strong commitment to patient care, education, and community service. She has clinical expertise, having worked at UST Hospital since 2012 in various capacities. Additionally, she served the medical needs of students, employees, and their dependents at the University Health Services Department for almost six years and contributes part-time as a medical specialist at Rizal Medical Center, a DOH Tertiary Hospital. As a Training Officer and Consultant, she plays a key role in the Family and Community Medicine Department, providing care to hospital staff and outpatients at the Employee Health Services and Family Medicine Clinics.
In her academic contributions, Dr. Asuncion is an Assistant Professor I, teaching Preventive, Family, and Community Medicine to medical students across all four years in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Santo Tomas. Her leadership and advocacy are evident through her active involvement with the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians, where she is a Diplomate and Fellow, Co-Chair of the Residency Working Committee, and a core group member of the Family and Community Program for Doctors to the Barrios, a DOH partnership.
Currently, she is pursuing RACGP Fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Roland Ark, showcasing her commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Dr. Asuncion has a strong interest in public health, primary care geriatrics, and palliative medicine. She leads and facilitates health promotion activities and preventive health projects and has broad experience with elderly patients in both hospital and outpatient settings.
Beyond medicine, she has a keen interest in video and sound editing.
