General consultations with the doctors, nurses and other health professional of this practice are usually made by appointment. Appointments can either be made by phone or by visiting in person. The practice is currently planning to develop online appointment booking system which will be available in near future.

Saturday: 09:00 am to 12:00 noon

   Sunday: 09:00 am to 12:00 noon

In an emergency when medical care is urgently required, we suggest patients to contact the Ambulance services on 000.

A GP from Wynyard Medical Centre is available 24 hours a day, however, between the hours of 08:00 pm and 08.00 am, our practice utilises the services of GP Assist.  GP Assist is a government funded telephone triage service.  To contact GP Assist for care outside normal working hours, please phone 1800 022 222 FREE.  The call will be answered by qualified nurses and/or GPs.  If a GP is required to visit, this will be assessed and arranged at the time.

There is an accident & emergency department at the North West Regional Hospital, located at 21 Brickport Road, Burnie Tas 7320 (Tel: 03 6430 6666).

Appointments are made at 10 minute intervals with longer consultations available on request. To ensure appointments are at a time to suit patient’s needs we advise that appointments are made well in advance where possible and inform our friendly receptionists in case of needing a longer appointment for complex medical issues which normally requires more than 10 minutes.

If patients are unable to attend their appointment it would be appreciated if they would advise the practice on 03 6442 220103 6442 2201 as soon as possible, so that the appointment can be re-allocated for patients in needs. If you are attending late due to unavoidable circumstances, please call our friendly receptionists to inform your doctor about being late and arrange your appointment appropriately.

Despite their best intentions and efforts your doctor sometimes runs late. This is because someone has needed unexpected urgent medical attention. Thank you and appreciate your kind consideration. If you need to leave on time for another appointment please do not hesitate to notify the reception staff on your arrival and they will inform your doctor about the matter to put on priority or arrange to see available doctor at that time..

Longer appointments are available on request.  If patients want an insurance medical or any other medicals, a medical report, review of a complex health problem, counselling for emotional issues, the GPs require the patient to book a longer appointment.  This may involve a longer wait but the problem will get not only the attention it deserves but also can be dealt with high quality medical care.

A  cancellation fee of fifteen dollars ($15) will be charged for non-attendance or failure to notify the practice within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment. The fee may be waived on individual doctor’s discretion based on valid grounds.

The results are followed up by the doctors. We work on the principle that if an investigation is important enough to be performed, it should be important enough to be followed up and deliver in a safe and confidential way, hence normally you are required to make a follow-up appointment for further face to face explanation, discussion and appropriate management. Reception staff can neither provide nor discuss results by phone or in person as they are not medically trained. On certain circumstances, your telephone call  may be put through to your doctor who advised you to do so at your last visit.

Wynyard Medical Centre has a strong policy to provide a smoke free environment for all patients, staff, visiting health professionals and contractors. No patient or employee will be permitted to smoke within fifteen (15) meters of any part of Wynyard Medical Centre premises at any time.

A fee will be charged for services provided by this practice.  The practice provides a private, personal medical service.  This practice may bulk bill patients who are on a Pension Card, Health Care Card, Veterans Affairs Card or children under 16 years. It is up to each practising GP’s discretion.

Additional services such as ECG, Respiratory Function Test, PAP Smears, Hearing Test, Minor Surgical Procedures, Wound Dressing and Immunization etc. will attract an additional fee.  A discount on the standard fee is available if payment is received at the time of consultation.

Payment of accounts is to be made at the time of the consultation.  Payment can be made by cash, cheque or eftpos. The Practice has Medicare Easyclaim Facility which means Medicare Easyclaim lets you claim your rebate on the spot if the payment is made fully by you on the day of consultation, using the specially equipped EFTPOS terminal in our practice. Your rebate is paid directly into your cheque or savings account(Not into credit card account) almost immediately.

The doctor will outline any other costs associated with the treatment prior to commencement.  If you are unsure of any costs, please ask.
